President-elect Obama

Postby Ennui » Thu Nov 06, 2024 12:30 am

Woot! Obama's successful election has got me all happy and flustered. First election I've voted in.

It'd be real hard for him to do worse than Bush did... and hopefully the Secret Service / FBI will keep any assassination attempts at bay. If he ends up getting assassinated there are going to be riots on a scale we've never seen in the USA before.

Why are americans so happy that they voted and elected obama? there so happy it's like jesus has come down to earth ahha. I can understand he would be a good leader but still.

Here in australia, everyone wanted to get rid of john howard (former prime minister) and we did we were happy but we didnt all cry and get over joyed :P

and on another note, i was very very surprised he didnt get shot while making his speech. I heard there was bullet proof glass or something? i never saw it lol.

I dunno how to explain the sentiment of American politics as they are here, but this was a huge deal for many many people (myself included). We've spent the past eight years with Bush at the helm and he's been wrecking shit left and right - we're caught up in two wars, the economy is fucked, we're bankrupt as hell, and the Supreme Court is now largely conservative thanks to three appointments during Bush's presidency. We've watched our country's image plummet internationally... the rest of the world thinks we're a big, dangerous, arrogant joke because of conservative rule. Now Congress and the White House are both in the hands of Democrats, we've elected a black president which is a tremendously big deal here, because race is a very deep, important issue in this country. For someone like me who's spent their entire mature life under Bush and consistently disagreed with the destructive policies of his administration, this is a very big deal indeed... finally I can respect my government and leader.

Plus Obama is the shit. He's intelligent, fair, and eloquent as hell.

I don't see how people could be so xenophobic as to organise to shoot him.

I finally see your point. I damn hope that Obama is good with numbers or good with people who are good with numbers because everyone's economy is going down the drain as America goes down. Unfortunately, the TV in South Australia only shows unintelligent Americans who vote because a nominate sounds good and vote like voting for a pop star. Our shit TV never showed us that Americans had any policies or intelligence with politics like you Ennui. From the looks of other nations, America looks like pulling itself up on image after the dreaded Bush invasion.

As for assassination attempt risks of Obama, I think it is a problem as one Mckain supporting old woman tried to say to Mckain during election coverage that she didn't trust him because he is a (she didn't get to say 'black' as Mckain politely stopped her). If just below half the percentage of voters voted Mckain and are racist like this woman, then Obama may have some problems. Hope the racist bastards screw themselves over and die.
It's ok. You're not a bad person. Horses are bad people.

Some of the best presidents are not those whom can craft clever plans for themselves and all.

No, rather it is those who are actually aware they have all the expertise in their world readily available; and know to make use of it.

you don't need to be xenophobic to shoot a black guy, if mentally unstable people disagree with the guy on fundamental issues they could shoot him for that. JFK wasn't killed because he was white, but because his ideals weren't the same as the shooter.

(i hate the racist card :P )
